We nurture future leaders who are equipped to care for their communities and the world.
Hearts of Gold facilitates youth-led connection and engagement with the community through service projects and educational opportunities. We combine the classroom concept of STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Arts Math) with its hands-on concept of STEAM (Serve, Teach, Educate, Advocate, Mobilize).
Hearts of Gold's vision is to combine the 2 concepts of STEAM by providing youth with opportunities to serve, learn, and make meaningful connections with one another, and with the arts and sciences.
Our mission is simple: We are a 100% volunteer-led groupthat provides service and learning opportunities in various sectors, enabling our youth to apply STEAM.
Providing charitable service for our community in various ways to give back to our local communities.
Ensuring children and teens understand the meaning behind each experience that they participate in.
Building a network between our kids and the people and environment they serve.
How it Works
When doing cleanups, HOG chooses various locations and engages participants in a variety of science topics:
• What is a watershed?
• How does water move through a watershed?
• What is debris?
• What is the concept of use-reduce-reuse-recycle and how does it relate to the watershed?
• What is the specific concept of reduce and how does it relate to the arts?
• What are wetlands and why do they matter to the health of our communities?
• What are tide pools?
• What type of animals thrive and how are they affected by ocean debris?
When providing support to combat hunger, youth learn more intimately the social and scientific dynamics of world populations, agriculture, poverty. Many times, we also apply math by developing and analyzing charts and graphs during our many donation drives.
When serving seniors, youth learn more intimately the benefits of inter generational connection, as well as the science behind the effects of neurotransmitters on the brain.
When serving at animal rescues, students receive first hand experience in animal care. They learn how to physically nurture rescues, while also advocating for their long-term home placement. When serving the public, there is tremendous opportunity for youth to apply science, art, and math while also learning important soft skills in team work, problem solving, and leadership. Hearts of Gold strives to provide a holistic approach to serving, learning, and connecting.
